Music Personal Statement

I found my passion for music at a very young. As a little girl I would always sing the theme songs of my favorite TV shows with my brothers or at relative’s homes. At a young age I understood and appreciated different genres of music and the cultures they rose from. In elementary school I joined my schools 4th grade and 5th grade choir for the first time. The first performance we sang “Wade in the Water” and another song for black history month play at our school’s Columbus Africentric Early College held. I started to take my elementary choir seriously after this. Different schools were invited to watch our plays. My dream in middle school was to become a music producer. Sadly, I had a hard time with the kids there. They were so ruthless to me. They told me I was not talented enough and should just give up. They were spiteful as well. They would never let my recorded music with them, I felt like an outsider .I became really depressed and refused to go because I afraid of being picked on .The Career Center teacher there told me that I would never get into a four year college for Audio Production. He purposely stopped me from getting into a music school called Groove U because he was friends will the guy who created the school. He helped another student in my class get into the school, but refused to help me. Once I graduated from high school last year I started Columbus State I join the Audio Production class here but it was stuff I already learnt at Froth Hayes Career Center. I ended up taking the spring semester off so I came back this semester. I must say your class is one of the best classes. Your one of the best teacher’s I’ve ever met. I hope by taking your class it can help me become a better singer, and finally the confidence I need. Music is something I want to do with my life, friends, and family. I’m currently working with a friend who does Dj and rap. Producing music makes my want to do it even more and prove the people who told me I wasn’t good enough
