Rationale: The Things I Carry In part 4: Critical study, we have examined the text The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, I have attempted to replicate a passage from his work to exemplify both the physical and the abstract things I carry with me on a daily basis. Through my written task, “The Things I Carry”, I have attempted to capture an honest introspection of a girl of indomitable spirit despite all the ordeals in her life by mimicking Tim O’ Brien’s writing style. I mirrored O’ Brien’s writing style in how I structured my essay.
There are many things that we associate ourselves with, or that we like having. A lot of us like clothes. A lot of clothes. A variety of clothes that we can wear to match however we are feeling. Oftentimes, the fabrics we wear or possess mean something to us, whether they are from someone special or passed down through generations.
In picture 12 I think that the tone that they are trying to show us is frustrated. I think this because the lady is trying to brake hold of the police and the police look frustrated with the lady for trying to escape. Also the men and the woman 's face have that frustrated look to it when the police are clenching onto her arms so that they could carry her off and that she could not leave their grip. In picture 11
Rhetorical Analysis Levi Crutcher Mr Lau 3rd blk “The Other Side” is a song from the 2017 American musical drama film The Greatest Showman. It is performed by Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron, who play the characters P.T. Barnum and Phillip Carlyle, respectively. The song is an excellent example of rhetorical strategies used in musicals, including pathos, ethos, and logos. The ethos is the credibility or trustworthiness of the speaker, and in this song, both characters use ethos to establish their authority.
What some people do not realize is that when you label somebody, you may not think that it affects them, but deep down it could really hurt them. People tend to take everything personally and when someone gets labeled negatively, that could lead to a low self-esteem, low self respect and maybe even suicide. Labels are more intense today than they were in the past years. Throughout high school teenagers are labeled within five categories: jocks, prom queen, geek, loner, and “friendly”. Some people do not like their label and hope that when they leave high school that their label will disappear, but then there are other people that do not want to leave their label behind.
This passage intrigues me because it explains a little how a body is prepared for a funeral. As a student looking into the health community, this intrigues me because of how it is seen as similarity to surgery. “His equipment, consisting of scalpels, scissors, augers, forceps, clamps, needles, pumps, tubes, bowls and basins (...)” (2) The informative tone that Mitford possesses for this essay sounds like what a college professor would lecture, it can get a bit boring (but then again, that could be because of my generation 's attention span and my attention span) but overall informing and she makes it seem as though you need notes on these (then again, most informative writings seem that way). She also uses descriptive language to hook the readers with colorful words (not bad words, just descriptive) and her use of them boosts the readings likeability, in my opinion.

Past leaders such as Andrew Jackson, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Marc Antony are evidence that society does not reward morality and good character in leadership. Society is drawn to leaders that have good rhetoric, propaganda, and charismatic personalities, and society supports them despite their immorality. Society is concerned about stability more than the morality of their leaders and will support immoral leaders in times of crisis to provide stability. In history there have been multiple leaders that have used rhetoric, propaganda and charismatic personalities to gain power, despite their morals.
I feel the song that relates the most today my eighth grade experience is Stressed Out by Twenty One Pilots. The song Stressed Out is about how the artists wish that they ‘could turn back time, to the good old days’, talking about how simple life was when they were younger and taking everything for granted. They talk about how everything was easier and wished that when they were kids, they didn’t think about the future so much, and just lived in the moment, and enjoyed while it lasted. One line from the song Stressed Out is ‘Wake up you need the money’. This line talks about how very soon we need will need to make money and pay for things by ourselves, instead of hiding behind our parents letting them pay for everything.
Middle School Get Me Out Of Here James Patterson Rafe adjusts to his new school by acknowledging the school’s art programs and classes and by causing a little trouble with Zeke and Kenny. For instance, after Mrs. Ling gave Rafe and the other students a tour around the art section of the school, Rafe thought that the new school was extraordinary and that “seventh grade was looking up, up, UP!” (Page 57, Patterson). In addition, after Zeke and Kenny made Rafe look like a total fool during the critique, Rafe and his new friend Matty threw rubber glove balloons filled with water at Zeke and Kenny as their revenge.

In “Grade Inflation Gone Wild” by Stuart Rojstaczer, he discusses how the grading system has changed over the years. Rojstaczer’s overall purpose is to increase awareness of grade inflation and persuade his audience to take action. He argues that “changes in grading have had a profound influence on college life and learning” (2).
Split Enz: A bio Split Enz were a band formed in 1972 Auckland, New Zealand. They were best know for their early 80s pop hits and became the first New Zealand band to achieve worldwide success. The original members consisted of Tim Finn, Phil Judd, Noel Crombie, Mike Chunn, Eddie Rayner and later, Neil Finn. Their style of music was eclectic and original, having influences of punk-rock, art rock, new wave and pop. The group had strong influences from The Beatles, The Move and The Kinks, and created a reputation for distinct visual style thanks to their original and bizarre costumes, make up and hairstyles.
Some peer groups can be good and some can be bad. The peer group that I was a part of in high school was bad. In high school I was always a little different and did not have many fiends because the clique or peer group in my high school used the Social Typing which is a “labeling process that begins when a person violates a norm. Negate sanctions are applied to norm violates in the form of criticisms, punishments, and/or labels.” They labeled me as a “dorky weird girl.”
