Football, a commonplace sport of the United States, a game where your hopes are brought up only to be tackled down by the enemy. It is one of the most watched sports within the united states and is known to bring in both good entertainment and display the good qualities of the players. My All American, a Film about one player’s struggle for success within and for his life. Although Freddie Steinmark was an influential and important figure within the film, his roommate and long-time friend, Bobby Mitchell, endured a struggle far longer and greater than anyone else on the team. My All American is an extended metaphor for the American Dream, where there are constant struggles against adversity, shown in the way that Bobby struggles with the moving of schools and teams, the abnormality of not being the very best, and the enlistment and death of his brother.

His brother, one of the closest relatives, had been one of the driving forces for him to continue playing football, and for him to not give up. Without the influence of his brother, he would not have been able to achieve the great distance that he had achieved. This is another hallmark of the American dream, where all relatives help each other achieve many great things. Everything changed when his brother joined the american military as a helicopter pilot. After receiving this news, he was shocked and went into a state of sadness, disabling him from playing football. Then again, Freddie Steinmark came into the picture, driving him towards success again, making him become one of the greatest football players. A few months after his brother was deployed into the war in Vietnam, he received news of his brother dying while he was serving his country. This news broke him into tears, but was again helped by Freddie to recover and begin playing football
