The American Dream was an ideal in the 1900s and on that equality was available to any American. This ideal has been debated about whether this is achievable by anyone. The American Dream today has many barriers that prevent this ideal from being achievable. The barriers that prevent the American Dream from being achievable involve intense pursuit of wealth. For example, in the Great Gatsby, Gatsby has been so hypnotized with this pursuit for his amount of wealth, made his ineligible to achieve the American Dream. Also in that same book, Gatsby tended to involve himself too much into receiving praise from others, this was another reason as to why his American Dream wasn’t achievable. He never accepts fully what he needs to do to achieve his dream. At the beginning of the year, I had assumed that the American Dream was still achievable as it was back in the 1900s. I have realized throughout the year that I was mostly wrong. I don’t think the American Dream is achievable, the conditions to do so are so exact that it feels like it wouldn’t be feasible. What is possible, is success. I feel that you can achieve something to a point of success without fully hitting all that points you needed to hit to achieve the American Dream. Going through the mock interview did show me the challenges with achieving a career. As I went through and interviewed many people, I realized how hard it is to get a job. You need to be very advanced in that career to a point where you had been in the career field from before. Also, it showed me that there may be many great candidates for a career choice and the decision could be mostly based on one specific thing that could put a singular candidate above the others. It seems like failing a job interview doesn’t define whether you can achieve your dream or
