Trying new things can be a challenge for some of us. As human beings, we tend to take the easy way, or the familiar way. We view change as a bad thing, instead of seeing it as a chance for new opportunities. Change can help us to see and understand our goals in life and it can be what helps us to reach our full potential. Change can often give us the chance to discover who we truly are. My greatest accomplishment is the time I faced my fear of change and decided that it wasn’t going to hold me back anymore.
When I was in the eighth grade, I decided to change schools. I started going to Caddo Public School when I was in Kindergarten because my mom got a job teaching there. In the beginning, it was fun, exciting, and most of all, comfortable. I got to know everyone very fast because it was a small school. However, as I got older I started to realize that my classes weren’t challenging me anymore. Things got too relaxed and too comfortable. I saw how my older brother was struggling in college because his former curriculum had not properly prepared him for his future. I then realized that if I stayed in Caddo School I would be depriving myself of the exceptional education that I deserved. My dad checked me out of school for the day to go see my new high school. We talked to a counselor to get information about enrollment and they gave me a list of classes I could take. The lady then brought us to see the commons to have a look around. It was during lunch time and I can only remember feeling how nervous I was, knowing that I would soon be going to school with all of these new faces.
