a) What is your definition of health? Health is not being sick all the time. Health is being mentally and physically fit. Health is being independent and being able to meet your own basic human needs.
b) What is your definition of illness? Illness is having a condition, whether it is physical or mental, that causes major changes in the way a person feels and bring about changes in a person’s ability to enjoy life. Being ill prevents me from enjoying the privacy. Illness makes me emotionally and spiritually distressed
c) When you are ill, what do you think causes the problem? I think I get ill because of my paralysis. Most of my illnesses are from complications from my spinal cord injury. I get a lot of bladder infections because of the bladder catheter. I have problems keeping my blood pressure stable because I can’t move my legs. I get lung infections sometime because my cough is really weak. I know I would not have all of these health problems if I hadn’t been in the car accident.

I think I get ill because of the complications that come from being paralyzed. I don’t think there is a certain time of year that I am sicker than others. I think that because I have a catheter in my bladder, I could get sick at any time. I could get a respiratory infection at any time because I do not walk and my cough is weak.
e) What does your sickness do to you? When I am sick, I get very discouraged about life. Sickness takes all of my energy away from me. I lose my appetite and it makes me feel weak and tired all the time.
f) How severe is your illness when you have one? Some of my complications can be so severe that I have to be hospitalized for weeks. While in the hospital, I receive IV antibiotics, IV fluids, and I have a lot of blood tests done. I have had to be admitted for to a nursing facility for short term care for an infected stage IV pressure
