How does one earn the title “The most infamous emperor of Rome”(Staff)? It could have been the senseless massacre of Christians, after the fire of Rome(Eyewitness), or what about the killing of his mother and wife (Anna)? No matter how he attained the title, Nero was not a successful ruler and is scorned throughout time. this paper considers the negative influence of his childhood, the way in which his mental health affected his decisions, and his legacy. Nero’s childhood was rough, at a young age, his mother was exiled and his father died. Living with his aunt until his mother was brought back, Nero felt unwanted. In a poem entitled My Deprived Childhood, written by Nero, he describes how he was isolated and alone as a child.
