It was in fourth grade when my mind was opened to all of the wonders of reading and what it meant to actually be able to read and comprehend. I walked in knowing that I was going to face the same struggles that I did in the previous years. With the help of one of my elementary teachers Mrs. Grham I walked out with one of the highest reading EOG scores in the class; something I thought that I would never be capable of doing. It was my freshman and sophomore year of high school when my teacher Mrs. Lewis impacted my life with her substantial amount of knowledge in writing and making me into a better writer and speaker. Before she got to know us she testes our listening and comprehending skills. I was never a fan of listening to someone read a book whether or not it was good, my attention span is not qualified for it. I did not know she was going to give a test on it and when she handed out the test I panicked because I knew I did not pay attention to any part of the story. Mrs. Lewis took us on different level when it came to writing, proper grammar, and when it's appropriate to use certain words. Every day we drilled with grammar practice and even though I hated it at times I knew it would be useful in the long run. She would always say "just because it sounds right does not mean it is right" and I still follow by that motto today.
Mrs. Lewis did everything that she possible could've to make sure her students were getting the knowledge that they needed. Every day, Monday through Friday I looked forward going to her class because I knew I would be engage in the agenda that she had planned because her class was never boring. The comparison to how I wrote at the beginning the beginning of the semester compared to the end of the semester was a dramatic change. I never knew how illiterate I was until I got into her
