My informational report will be looking into the past, present and future of technology and its use in businesses. Technology is becoming more and more relevant in our lives every day. It is next to impossible to find a business that isn’t or hasn’t already integrated technology into its system. I have researched how technology has taken over in the past and how it affected people. This may give an idea as to how it will affect us today. I also researched technologies of today and what ones are moving to replace workers. Finally I looked up what is to come. The industrial revolution was a movement that industrialized and urbanized rural societies in Europe and America. Before the industrial revolution manufacturing was done by hand and usually out of people’s homes. But with a rising demand for goods came the need for cheaper and faster ways to produce them. Innovation that led to the rise of mechanization. The invention of the first practical steam engine by Thomas Newcomen which was improved on in the 1770’s by James Watt was essential to industrialization. Inventions such as the “spinning jenny” made the work go by more efficiently and reduced the need for skilled workers. The “spinning jenny” was a machine used in the first American textile factory that transformed raw cotton into finished cotton. It was set up so that eight threads could be processed at once, this resulted in cotton that was cheaper and could be processed faster than by hand. (Industrial Revolution- Textile Industry, n.d.) The transportation industry also underwent significant transformation. In the early 1800’s the first commercially successful steam boat was created by Robert Fulton. (History.com Staff, 2009) During this time period British engineer Richard Trevithick constructed the first railway steam locomotive. Transportation of goods and travel become much quicker and easier. The industrial revolution brought a wider variety of factory produced goods that raised the standard of living for the middle and upper classes. The working classes continued to struggle. Unskilled workers were easily replaceable and even skilled craftsmen were being replaced by machines. This led to the rise of luddites. Luddites were groups of people who opposed the technological advances of the industrial revolution and sought out to destroy the machinery that they believed was threatening their jobs. Luddites objected to the rising popularity of automated textile equipment threatening the jobs and livelihood of skilled workers as this
