Over the course of decades, America has been through many events that forever changed it as a whole. In most cases, change was made for the greater good, but other times not so much. While reviewing 3 history sections, it is clear that the U.S. developed and became more united through well thought out innovations, expansion, and visions that steered this country in the direction that it needed to be in.
To start off, in section 7 there were new and advanced ideas that were introduced. Because of the effects from the American revolution, the United States had a weak and unstable government. Because of this, many individuals were encouraged to move west to settle upon new land. When this land, that would eventually become states, reached a desirable and a minimum population, they were given the opportunity to draft their own constitution and petition for full statehood. However, mandates had to be followed in order for this to happen. Civil rights, civil liberties, and prohibition of slavery are just a few of the many things that these upcoming states had to abide by if they wanted to completely become one. Also, the Lewis and Clarke Expedition had a hand in America’s expansion. The Lewis and Clarke Expedition took place in 1804 and lasted two years. Explorers, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, led this expedition in order to gather information on new territory that was yet to be explored. Appointed by James Monroe, Lewis and Clark made their journey through the American interior to the Pacific Northwest. On their way there, they ran into two interpreters that aided them along the way: Sacagawea and Toussaint Charbonneau. Accompanied by these two individuals, Lewis and Clark were able to make a successful trip back to their town and publish the journals that they documented during this trip. Firstly the Industrial Revolution began due to the primary focus of the 19th century being economic growth and expansion. The Industrial Revolution was essentially an era of new manufacturing procedures and new manufactured goods. This period exposed us to a notable “great inventor” who was called Eli Whitney. He gave us the popular invention of the cotton gin which made the process of separating seeds from cotton easier and less time consuming. Whitney also introduced us to interchangeable parts which made the creation of weapons quicker and cheaper. Expansion wise, the U.S. extended to the Pacific Ocean because of “Manifest Destiny” which was the belief that the U.S. was destined to expand. There were three reasons specifically that influenced the expansion of the country: to search for more gold, the desire for more Americans to own more land and the belief that the country was destined to stretch westward. Secondly, reform movements came about in the early 1920s such as Women’s Suffrage, abolitionism and temperance. In essence, Women’s suffrage was the right for women to vote in elections. Eventually the problem was solved by the creation of the 19th amendment which granted women the right to vote. Significant figures from this movement included Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott and Ida B. Wells. The Temperance movement was a reform against the ingestion of alcohol. It was a socialist
