Throughout my life so far, I have found joy in being kind and helpful to others, both in my community and beyond. As I begin to take my next step in life and enter college, I hope to continue to act in the same manner. If I were to imagine nearing the end of my life, it would bring me the most happiness to know that I touched the lives of others and supported them in some way. At the age of fifteen, I was given the life changing opportunity to attend a mission trip to Guatemala with my dad. Work officially began on the second day of the trip, following arrival to the mountainous town of Chichicastenango, Guatemala. While there, our team of missionaries performed many tasks to benefit the locals. Some of these jobs included building a house, installing wood stoves, painting and repairing homes, and serving food to kids. In this week I spent in Guatemala, I was enlightened on how the small town took care of each other, even when they did not necessarily have a lot to give. A heartrending moment for me at a feeding program was watching the kids pack up half their meal to bring home to the rest of their family. My trip to Guatemala had a great amount of influence on me. In response to the second question, I usually explain that I plan to study a science-related major. After finding a new outlook on life from my trip to Guatemala, volunteer work, and leadership positions, I decided that I would most enjoy to enter the medical field, so that I can continue to improve the lives of people around me.
