Schooling:
Although education is taught in schools, schools have a very different role than education as previously discussed. Schools should be the institutions in which our students are able to partake in a well-rounded curriculum-based education. Schools are the institution that should foster a physically and emotionally safe environment where students are able to express their developing ideas and emotions. This type of environment creates an academically nurturing atmosphere where students are allowed to express new ideas about their education but also a place where they can discuss their views on the world events around them. As an educator, I want to help foster my student's individualistic views and thoughts on the curriculum being taught, which means my own ideas and views will not influence my students. The curriculum brought into my classroom used to educate my students will be neutral on my part as the educator. The curriculum will still be able to provide the necessary skills my students need to form their own points of views and come to their own conclusion based off of their developing ideas and faiths.
In the ideal school, educators are able to recognize what is best for the child and is able to supply what is needed, and we find the child learning through the social converse and constitution of the school itself. As stated in The School and Society Dewey explains the shift in education from a dealing with children in masses to where the child becomes the center to which education is organized (Dewey 34). I believe that the ideal school involves creating a hands-on atmosphere that fosters growth both emotionally and mentally for the student.
