The use of language, stage directions and dialogue.
The "Challenge: Expand Our Circle" in this course was very enjoyable. Most of the movies that were played were movies I would have never thought about watching. A few of these movies touched my heart and made me quite emotional. Also, a few of the movies dealt with quite a bit of cultural tensions which made the movie interesting to watch. Before this class, I would have never paid much attention to the music in the movies and how much they connect with the scenes in the movies.
From this class, I have learned to work with other people, including students and adults, as well as leading a team, creating ideas, and problem
Upstage is back, downstage is front, right is left, left is right, out is up, break a leg but don't really, wings have nothing to do with birds, the catwalk doesn’t involve cats, and when the stage manager says move it means move. The theatre vocabulary is very confusing for the outside world, but for me it is my second language. More specifically, I have developed a passion for the technical elements of theatre over the years. The joy of being the “people in black” that can make amazing sets and produce incredible plays which goes unnoticed.. Although this discourse is much small yet complex it has helped me find out who I am but also in my academic skills through learning how to work in teams, solve problems independently but also how to be
I had to revise my perspective and rethink. In class I was forced to make new connections and think at a deeper level. Be prepared to debate and challenge your own personal views, some of my longstanding beliefs have changed because I had to use metacognition awareness. During class, tough to talk about subjects make a regular appearance. Come into class with an open mind.
“Theatre is a form of knowledge; it should and can also be a means of transforming society. Theatre can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it.” (Boal) Applied theatre is an umbrella term that covers theatre and drama in non-traditional settings with marginialised members of societies; with focus customarily on relevant social and cultural issues of those socieities. The Applied Theatre Reader by Tim Prentki and Sheila Preston consists of chapters by various authors who have experienced and been involved with the practice of applied theatre first-hand, and who share these experiences in the book. Three chapters that I found interesting and engaging were Chapter 7 (“Lift your mask”), Chapter 39 (“Is this the play?”), and Chapter
I learned a couple things like to ask questions even if they sound dumb to yourself; to not overthink things; start working on assignments earlier rather than later; and have a clear understanding of what the assignments or least an understanding
I spent hours reading through musical theory books so that I could understand the background and general makeup of playing the piano. My time and dedication to learning allowed me to become a good piano player and showed that I belonged in that community. Becoming a part of the piano playing discourse community allowed me to become a part of a new family in which I felt accepted. Being a part of it has taught me many new things that do not apply just to the community itself but to life in general. I tried to learn about the basic notes before starting classes, I asked to be taught a few songs beforehand as well, and after I joined
Meanwhile, I also noticed that some people are very adapted to their own natural roles, for example, one of our team members is a natural leader and she would just jump right into the role and give out orders even though she wasn’t the leader during that class. I think in a working environment we wouldn’t be given the choice to choose which role we would like to act, but it all depends on improvisation and if you only had a few people in your team and you know the most about the patient then you would assume the leadership role. Hence, I benefited a lot from this class because I tried various roles and I won’t be afraid if I’m put in a situation where I need to play out different
Because I am in community theatre, I represent not only my community, but the company I am in as well. TACT has taught me how to express myself to a large group of people, to be dedicated, and to work hard to obtain a positive outcome. I have been performing through TACT since 2009. Ever since I began theatre, I started singing lessons. I am one of the older performers, so I must be a favorable epitome for the children who look up to the older actors.
It can be a creative outlet, a social circle, or even a home away from home. Most importantly, though, it is a chance for me to create something bigger than myself for my community and a learning experience that I will not soon forget. Throughout the multiple shows I have helped put on, I have learned mundane things such as the proper way to clean a paint brush or how to paint wood to look like “better wood” but I have also acquired skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my life: teamwork, leadership, responsibility, problem solving, initiative, and commitment. I learned that it is possible to have each of these traits while still being creative, social, and while I’m having fun with people who have become my second family. I realized, here, that I can be whoever I want, and I will be accepted, I realized that not everything will go as planned the very first time and that error should be accounted for, and I realized that theater is much more than just acting, singing, and
The things I find interesting are those that are creative and engage the imagination and also engages the mind and heart. Because of this my interests range from the fine arts such as art, dance, music, literature and theatre to books on self- help and spirituality. My interests are what engage and capture me as a whole. My overarching career goal is to be a successful musical theatre performer. I hope to achieve this by learning as much as I can, and giving everything I have to the art form.
Most people never would consider Centre, Alabama, a small sleepy Southern town with a laid back atmosphere that could put an incurable insomniac to sleep, home to a thriving community theatre. Theatre Centre provides entertainment, wonder, dread, and happiness for all who witness it. I have loved and adored the theatre ever since I was a small child, performing in every play I could. Standing on stage fills me with a sense of pride and happiness that can be found nowhere else in the world. I love theatre, and even though the theatre I love more than any other thrives in a small town in Alabama, I still have a wonderful experience every time I go.
Those classes will help you become a better actor or actress when on stage or in a film. One of the classes you will have to take is an acting class. This may seem like obvious class you would have to take, but it is very important. This class will help you use emotion when you portray a character. Once you take the basic acting class, you will be able to show a more flexibility and range as an actor or actress.
To add on, some people might say “theater is not a necessity in life”. So what? Theater just gets taken away, which is too heartbreaking to understand when it’s not within people’s grasps. Theater might not be an essential for survival, but the importance of this argument is that it can improve in the educational system. And isn’t that what it is all about?
