Hello, I am Connor Love. I am writing this letter as a soon to be former student of Katy Leuschen 's "Waves of Change" writing 111 class. The first semester of my collegiate career has taught me many valuable lessons, from learning how to better succeed academically to how to deal with the flu without my mother. The lessons I have learned in writing class have not only helped my writing abilities grow, but also have helped me improve in other aspects of my life. During "Waves of Change" I learned how to revise my work, more importantly, that uncertainty during the writing process is normal, and revise my thinking. Writing scared me in high school. The idea of writing a 10 page research paper, or a 6 page opinion essay terrified me. My fear of writing was created by the success I achieved in other subjects in school. Revision has changed my writing and my overall thought process. The purpose of "Waves of change" is to study social movements intently to learn from them. As a straight, white, male in a 1st world country, the majority of the movements we studied I had no direct connection to. The mindset I had adopted in life could not comprehend the struggles of minorities, women and homosexuals because that was not who I was. To understand the complexity and perspective of the struggles of minority women in America. I had to revise my perspective and rethink. In class I was forced to make new connections and think at a deeper level. Be prepared to debate and challenge your own personal views, some of my longstanding beliefs have changed because I had to use metacognition awareness. During class, tough to talk about subjects make a regular appearance. Come into class with an open mind. Seeing all sides of a social movement is valuable to understanding the importance. Viewing all perspectives is valuable in your own writing because a more effective argument can be crafted if both sides of the argument are
