Jeff Chang, the author of Can’t Stop Won’t Stop decided to place this chapter in his book because he wanted his readers to know the story of DJ Kool Herc as the one who got hip-hop started and tell them how he did it. Kool Herc was essentially the father to hip-hop as he was the one who introduced the roots to this new type of music that was never heard before. Jeff Chang introduces the early life of DJ Kool Herc in the beginning of the chapter. He was born Clive Campbell and moved from Jamaica to the Bronx when he was 12 with his family. He got his musical influence by his dad who was a soundman for a local rhythm and blues band, and by his mom who brought him to house parties as a kid in the Bronx.
As our country reached the late 1800’s, Americans found themselves face to face with era known as the ‘Gilded Age’. Companies were created and grew rapidly during this time period. Some of the most famous entrepreneurs were John D. Rockefeller and Andrew Carnegie, who seemed to be the perfect models for the ‘rags to riches’ story. Many people debate which entrepreneur was a better role-model. Due to his low prices, the high demand for his products, and the way he sought to eliminate any possible competition, John D. Rockefeller is clearly the better role-model for today’s entrepreneurs.

They both started from the bottom of the ladder, poor family, impoverished, and eventually climbed to the point where they became known as many of the men who created America. These actions were very successful that it allowed their company’s budget to snowball to the point where they became one of the most wealthiest men on earth.

Then in November of 2009 during when he was just planning to release another album, Gucci Mane was sentenced to 12 months in jail for violating his probation that came off the 2006 assault case. A holder of thirty awards and fifty nominations, Eminem’s awards include seven Grammys and an Academy Award for Best Original Song. He was the first rapper to ever acquire an Academy Award in this category. He sits comfortably at the fourteenth position on the Billboard 200 Greatest Artists of All Time chart and eighty-third on the Rolling Stone 100 Greatest Artists chart.
