My tableau is from the play Antigone. In this scene, Creon is sentencing Antigone to death. The main aspects to notice in this tableau is the white colored attire, the grey background, the lighting of both Creon and Antigone, and the position of Antigone in relation to Creon. The tableau shows Creon at a higher elevation that Creon in an attempt to assert his power over Antigone. However, Antigone is looking up at Creon without a sign of fear. Her face looks determined and confident. Ultimately, the tableau demonstrates how both Antigone and Creon actions contrast between what is right and what is wrong. Both Antigone and Creon are shown wearing white. Therefore, their attire demonstrates how both feel that their actions are just and that they are acting out of goodness. However, the background is a grey wall. Thus, this demonstrates the reality the actions of both are not clear cut as to right or wrong, but a mixture of confusion. Furthermore, Creon casts a shadow. The darkness that follows him foreshadows the pain and downfall that is to follow him. In comparison, Antigone is shown in the light. The lighting portrays that Antigone’s future will be bright in that she is fully contempt with her actions and choices. Therefore, she walks in the light. Finally, Antigone has her handed placed firmly on the table. This hand position demonstrates her saying grounded to her beliefs. This scene in particular is important to the play because after Creon sentences Antigone to death it is the beginning of his downfall. Although neither Antigone nor Creon’s actions are pure, in the end Antigone prevails since she is confident in her choices. This scene of the play reflects the moral ambiguity of life.
