My Volunteering Goals

While attending The University of Mississippi Desoto, I have many goals. During my first year the three goals that I have set for myself are to maintain a great grade point average, volunteer in the community, and to help other students with studying. I think all three of these goals are necessary to both be successful and to be self-fulfilled. Maintaining a high grade point average is very important to me. I am my harshest critic. Good grades are the reward for hard work. Putting the time and effort into studying and homework is not only a responsibility as a student, but a sign of respect for the professors. In life things are not handed to you. It is necessary to put a true effort forth, be determined, and strive for excellence to be successful. I challenge myself with every assignment to do better than the last and to learn from the mistakes that I make. …show more content…

My field of study is Social Work and it is important to know the challenges and programs available within the community. There are many benefits to volunteering. The best way to find the unreached needs in your community is to be a part of it. I am hoping that volunteering will help me make a decision about a career choice. I am not sure if I want to work with children, the elderly, veterans, the poor, victims of abuse, the homeless, or a combination of them all. Being a part of different programs will give me a clearer understanding as to where the greatest needs are and where I feel the most
