My Worldview

My worldview is that we have not been given this planet as a resource, but that we are a part of a larger ecosystem. We may be an intelligent species that has creating a way of life different from all other species; however, every creature has the same rights and value as any other. A human being is not worth more than a wolf, a fish, or a tree, simply because we have developed out way of life into a more complex manner. I view humans as a predator, one that given out current technology and knowledge, is at the top of the food chain. This does not make us more important than the species we live with. In order to not abuse our resources and diminish the environments we interact with, it requires strict control. There are some actions that have become a standard for most developed countries; recycle, reuse, compost, etc. These actions do contribute to a greener picture; however, they alone are not enough to live true to my world view. It is difficult to follow my world view and so I began with small changes that overtime will make a difference and perhaps encourage me to make the stricter choices to live more suitably to my worldview. I limit my showers to ten minutes every other day to lower my water consumption, I have removed meat from my diet, and am conscious about the amount of electricity I use. I continue to adapt my life to better represent my worldview while still remaining connected to the epicenters of my community. I could live off the grid, allowing for me to make choices that better represent my idea of the world; however, I believe that to make a true difference you need numbers and masses. Thus, living off the grid away from the larger part of human activity is not an option I foresee myself taking even though I could live truer to my worldview, because I would be less likely to encourage others to care more for the environment which I believe is
