I enjoy writing to the extent, I would keep journals at hand in case I have an idea for a poem. It takes me time to think and formulate ideas, I imagine I am not alone. I actually started writing and drawing at twelve years old. When I was twelve I thought all poetry had to rhyme, since I was raised with the stories from the Cat in the Hat. As time went on, I avoided reading about other poets because I thought there work would influence my writing in a negative way. I wanted to be original and didn’t want their ideas to influence my ideas. After a while I did developed my own style of writing. And Isaiah my favorite Prophet. These passages moved me to tears, they stirred within me a desire to write and express the depths of my own soul. This may sound odd, but it was the first time that I actually noticed that poetry didn’t not have to rhyme to be called poetry. It’s been a journey for me and enjoy it.
I believe one of my strengths is having a vivid imagination. Most of the time, I can see the ending of the storyline before I can see the beginning of the story, I have to stress not all of the time. I find myself constantly revising, until it flows and comes together. There are days where I can sit at the table for hours, just thinking about what I want to say and rarely get tired, especially when I’m inspired to write. One thing I do need is peace and quiet to think, because I am easily distracted.
I wish I could recognize my weaknesses so I can work on them. Overall, I enjoy writing, I don’t particularly find it difficult as long as I stay true to myself and write from the heart what I believe or researched to be true.
