In the 1980’s and through the 1990’s crime rates were beginning to rise and schools began to crack down on violence, disorder, and weapons in the classroom. There was a term used to justify the punishments given to children who were misbehaving, Zero Tolerance, the official definition being the refusal to accept undesirable misbehavior, typically by strict and uncompromising application of the law. Retro Report is a website that publishes documentaries on major new events and shares them to a digital audience. On October 2nd, 2016 they released a video describing the Zero Tolerance policy in depth and depicting the impact it had on schools where the policy was enforced. There were witnesses to the effect of Zero Tolerance speaking in the video, speaking against the policy and how it had an overall negative outcome.

Odysseus shows he is a hero throughout the story when he saves his crew from the Cyclops, he makes sure his crew doesn’t die from the Siren’s songs, and he had the favor of Zeus against the men he fought for his kingdom, highlighting that he was the hero in Zeus’ eyes. Odysseus having the favor of Zeus is a big deal because he taught good meaning, Odysseus is a hero.
A gun free zone is identified by federal laws, state laws, and sometimes even local policies. Due to the nature of this paper being about firearms on campus, the focus for legality will be school zones. The federal government has established a definition for a school zone under United States Code (U.S.C.) Title 18 in Chapter 44 Section 921 (a) (25) “The term “school zone” means – (A) in, or on the grounds of, a public, parochial or private school; or (B) within a distance of 1,000 feet from the grounds of a public, parochial or private school.” The term “school” is defined in Section 921 (a) (26) as “a school which provides elementary or secondary education, as determined under state law.” State laws are a little different, for example North Carolina uses General Statute 14-269.2 to cover weapons on campus or other educational property.
Many reasons are held accountable for why guns are unacceptable on campus. More guns on campus rises the possibility for unaccredited access to firearms by the wrong people. The chance of the wrong person getting access to a “good guy’s” gun is a larger chance than the gun being used to save student and faculty lives. Guns can be accidentally left anywhere; in purses, jacket pockets, and lawful users can be outdo people outside of campus. Professors and faculty members are not taught to handle firearm combat in a characterized environment.
These weapons would only be allowed in the student’s car or in other designated areas. This at least allows students to feel safe when walking home or driving to off-campus
Introduction There is an ongoing abuse of the zero-tolerance policy that continues to affect the lives of minority girls in schools in the public and private school sector. The current literature supports data that show that minorities are severely impacted by the policies. However, there is a gap in the literature that addresses the magnitude of how minority girls are impacted by these policies. Furthermore, due to the zero-tolerance policies, cultural differences are not even considered. Due to a lack of a universally accepted definition of zero tolerance, there are only estimates of the frequency of enforcement (Daly, Hildenbrand, Haney-Caron, Goldstein, Galloway, and DeMatteo, 2016).
Education is the first priority in schools all around the country, there are many programs focused on helping students succeed in school. However, shouldn’t students’ safety be a concern? There have been many devastating school shootings in the past and there has been action taken in hopes to prevent more from occurring. However, colleges are now allowing students to bring concealed handguns on campus grounds. Concealed handguns should not be allowed on college campuses due to all the dangers that can be caused by a hand gun.

This question is one of the many that parents are asking themselves as the new law in some states is being passed about teachers carrying firearms in their classrooms. There are definitely two sides to the argument of teachers carrying weapons in the school. One side of the argument is yes, teachers should be armed at all times.
In fact, students may have the intentions to harm. Some students would be irresponsible with the use of a gun. For instance, at the University of Georgia an argument escalated then the student pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and started firing shots (Reindl, Cocco, 7). In addition, a student with a mood disorder could enact aggressively with the use of a gun.
Guns Should Not Be Allowed On College Campuses A recent statistic, show that there have been more than forty-seven deadly shooting took place on a school campus in the years of 2015, and these number keep increasing each year. As a college students, being able to concentrate in school have always been their number one priority. However, knowing that the student who is walk, seating, or standing next to them carry a loaded gun with them will not help these students achieved their goal, but cause them to lose concentration and drop off out college.
A possible concern is threatening weapons that are used too often when a person is causing a crime. For example, crimes all over the world have steered to atrocious incidents caused by concealed guns. This implies that the use of guns is taken for granted all over the world. This means that concealed guns have been the cause of a numerous amount dangers popping up around the world. However, “Carrying a concealed handgun could help stop a public shooting spree.”
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
