Have you ever held an infant before? You know, like a young, innocent, precious human being just lying there in your arms; feeling yourself become stiff because you’re afraid that you might scare it or make it cry or just hurt it? Knowing that the life this small, defenseless, piece of breathing flesh is in your hands? Imagine it instead of one baby, hundreds of them, maybe thousands; and not just babies but kids, teenagers, elderly, men and women in general. The fact that more than a thousand people, risking their lives and everything that they have, are all on your hands. For instance, in the story there is a dispute between Erudite and Abnegation about who should have command as the government, either the smart or the selfless? The Erudite only argue in order to take control and manipulate the other faction into their rules and regulations; they want to take control of things, of people by releasing false stories to the newspaper to change people’s Nailea Huertas | 2 opinion about one another and with their ‘knowledge’ control individual’s minds directly. To do all this and more they need power, they want more power, and they crave power, just to show whose boss. Another district with craving for an endowment is the Dauntless faction, between the initiates reaching to the top of the rankings to not only avoid being factionless but also to come out as the best. This kind of power, competition, brings out the worst in a person. As shown in the novel, Peter and his crew, Molly and Drew, torment and abuse the others, especially Tris during the entire training and initiation process, knowing that some are weak both physically and emotionally; but really if it weren’t the case the weakest one out of all
