When I first stepped out the doors of the Denver International Airport, my jaw drops and I’m awe struck. Mountains are all I see in the amazing view in front of my eyes. Coming from Illinois, a mostly flat area, seeing mountains was unheard of back home. I instantaneously fell in love with the view I got from the airport and from then on, I knew that going to Colorado would be the best trip of my life. Our six hour journey led us to the heart of Fort Lewis College, Durango. Fort Lewis College had been on my mind for months on end. The environment, community, and individualism of the students there had interested me the most. Coming from Adlai Stevenson High School, encompassed mostly by students who dressed, looked, and acted the same, I was yearning to branch out and explore a world different than my vastly populated school. Also, the background of most buildings also included my newly discovered landscape, mountains. The more of Fort Lewis College that I saw, the deeper my zeal grew for the school. It was a completely new environment that I got to experience, but at no point did I become timid or shy. I was thrilled to meet, see, and learn as much about the school as I could during the day that I spent touring it. It was welcoming to see a school that wasn’t overcrowded with pushy kids, but rather it was more open and relaxed. One of the most important things to my decision in picking a college was getting to find one that wasn’t too big or too small. Even though Fort Lewis College has around the same population of students that my high school has, it makes me feel much more comfortable going to a school that is around the same size as the one I currently attend. The fact is that I would rather be in a smaller environment, than an overcrowded
