I was born in a country called Honduras which is located in Central America. I was born in a 3rd world country but my parents decided they wanted a better future for me and my siblings. I left Honduras when I was around four years old. I was able to start school here in America. I don’t remember much Honduras the four years that I was there. To me, America is my country and I do consider myself as an American because this is the only place that I knew as home.
I didn’t know much about Honduras growing up. I knew that we spoke spanish and that are dialects differed between the other spanish speaking countries. I was aware that we had some family there who would send us shirt and sometimes food and I would wear it but i had no idea about what it was like or how my parents families looked like. I felt sympathy toward my parents because they wouldn’t be able to return to the place they knew as home. They haven’t seen their respective families in almost 16 years. I was blessed enough to be able to travel back to Honduras. After graduating high school my parents let me go to Honduras and after 14 years I was able to see the country I was born in. …show more content…

Because I am so Americanized I was able to see many differences between both of my cultures. I was of course happy to put a face to all the names that I knew were my family. One of the many things that I noticed that's different from Austin, besides the temperature, was how everyone was always behind bars. If you went to the corner store the store was gated and you had to order through the bars like if it were prison. Peoples homes were always gated and closed in. Here in the U.S there is separation of property but you don't have to build a fence in the front yard. When i went to major cities like San Pedro, the stores would have security guards. Most of our stores don’t have security
