Obsession is a persistent idea that controls one’s mind over a period. Although obsession is often perceived as negative, it can also lead to great things. We tend to form obsessions more frequently at a young age. Sports aren’t always seen as something that can become an obsession. For me, the obsession with soccer began around the age of 13. By the time I was thirteen I had been playing soccer in my city for nine years, and saw it as no more than a social event with running. I was never on the team that won the championship until 2013. When I showed up for the first practice all I saw was older girls, which made me nervous and anxious. I didn’t know it then, but these eight girls that I just met would be a big part of my life for the next five years. The day we won the championship was a turning point in my life. As we walked out onto the field everyone was having a good time and laughing, but I wasn’t. I was so close to winning a championship game that I could feel my heart beat throughout my entire body. I would try my hardest at every practice and occasionally stay after practice. I was so obsessed with soccer that I spent over half of every week playing or practicing soccer. Then it happened, my coach introduced me to club soccer. Joining a team of girls who were equally obsessed with soccer made me feel special and noticed. Training twice a day with my high school team, and once a day with my club team payed off. Around three months before my first high school my coach informed me that I would be playing with the varsity team throughout the season. Even with so many exciting things occurring I felt incomplete when I wasn’t being involved in soccer. To fill this empty hole, my family started taking me FC Dallas soccer games every weekend.
