For this analysis paper, the lyricist I will be discussing is Nathan Sharp, also known as NateWantsToBattle. Nathan is most known for his covers of other artists’ songs, but recently, he has released his first original album entitled, “Sandcastle Kingdoms.” The songs on this album contain a variety of themes. For example, his song, “Live Long Enough to Become the Hero,” has an encouraging theme that tells the listener to keep persevering despite all the trials they may face while his other song, “StopRewind,” has a mixed theme of belittlement and love. Nathan’s use of rhyme, repetition, and emotions, places emphasis on his desire to be remembered by all his listeners. This is established through these phrases, “Can’t break me, I’m not giving up, I gotta prove them wrong. Take your time ‘cause I’m not taking mine, I gotta stand up strong,” “Lost sight and my knuckles are white, not gonna break and bend,” “My bones, my skin, breaking down, wearing thin, won't break my will, no I'm not giving in,” and, “Voice in my head said to keep on going. Don’t let them see you bleed, don’t want your weakness showing.” The first phrase uses a simple rhyme, “wrong,” and, “strong,” which will help the listener to easily remember this part of the song, but upon taking a closer look at this phrase, it is notably suppose to provide encouragement. The meaning of this phrase is to remain steadfast in doing whatever the person may want even if those around them aren’t supportive. Even the title of the song was meant to provide encouragement. The title of the song means to become the hero of one’s own story and be the best version of themselves. Although Nathan uses rhyme to get his listeners to remember his songs, he also blatantly asks listeners to follow him in, “To the Ends of the Earth.” This is the next song that will be examined. Without further adieu, let’s take a look at this next …show more content…
In this song he says he isn’t worth it, that even he doesn’t see much in himself. This theme could end up being rather depressing, but thankfully, Nathan lightens up the mood by including a love interest that keeps him going strong. He does this through phrases like, “Ear to ear you kept me smiling. Kept me happy, kept me grounded, before I flew away,” and, “I felt it breaking, then you came around. In this world of white noise you’re my favorite sound.” These phrases show that even when he felt at his worst, “she,” the love interest keeps him going strong. The, “she,” in this song can be interpreted as a couple of things. One could be his girlfriend, Morgan Want. She is known for always being supportive of Nathan, from being moral support to helping him with his make-up and video production. Another way to interpret the, “she,” in the song is, all his fans. Many of his fans send him letters and gifts, even going so far as to send him money on a monthly basis. Whatever the real meaning is, when applying the second possible interpretation, the listener could feel really touched, making them want to continue to stay by his side. By tugging on his
