Mayor Lee Swaney and his supporters obstruct the Fugees and the refugee population of Clarkston as a whole, in order to protect their antiquated ideal of what small town America should be. The Fugees ' difficulties in finding a practice pitch could rarely be traced to a scheduling conflict or other hard logistical issue; instead, they were contrived by the authorities in an attempt the limit the refugees ' impact on their town. In the early days of the Fugees, Luma had little trouble arranging to rent the Clarkston Community Center field with funding from the YMCA (52), and their use of the facility for practice appeared to be going smoothly for a time. The Fugees and other refugee outreach programs provided great publicity for the

The Iowa State Fair is the most influential events throughout the state of Iowa during the month of August. This is a place where one can go to experience shows, art, food, and see livestock from all around the country. Most people however, go to this fair simply to have fun. On my visit to the Iowa State Fair in the previous summer, tasting all of the different foods, quality of the rides and the positive attitude from the carnival workers highly encourages me to come back year after year.

In proposing his new club, the SGA met Dakota with resistance and concerns about Pantheon’s events and practices. People on the board had some preconceived notions about Paganism. Many of the board members asked somewhat ridiculous questions: Do you sacrifice animals? Do you drink blood? Dakota seemed passive in mentioning this, reasoning that he expected such questions because “people don’t really know what this stuff is”.
I would like to start off this essay off by saying I am very honored to be invited to join the National Honor Society. Ever since I was young I loved helping people. I did this through Girl Scouts, which I participated in five years ago. One year my Girl Scout troop went to Kennedy Hospital in December and sang Christmas carols to cheer people up. It was events like this that really shaped who I am as a person.

The Black Panther party began to fall around the end of the 70’s due to an FBI program called COINTELPRO, short for ‘Counter-Intelligence Program.’ The significance of analyzing this party and the effects the FBI had on it is to reveal a side of the civil rights movement that is often shadowed. The U.S. government saw civil rights as a large threat to security and took many initiatives to prevent parties and leaders, such as the Black Panther Party and Martin Luther King Jr., from becoming successful in their movement towards
It would be an honor to be among the exemplary students who represent the National Honor Society. The first time I heard about NHS was in the second semester of my freshman year. Ever since then I pushed myself to work hard. Thinking that by pushing myself harder to get that A in that one academically challenging class, putting on a smile every day, and getting better at time management while displaying character, scholarship, leadership, and service will help me to become an NHS student who represents the ideology of the club. In many environments, in and out of school, I believe I display those qualities.
