Product research is an important step in the development and marketing stages of a product. For the new product natural Lips lip balm, it is a product for both men and women to enjoy the natural ingredients for healthier and softer lips this new product has to offer. Therefore, to decipher if customers will like the product, a primary research experiment will be conducted. To establish how well the Natural Lips will succeed in the market of lip treatments, a secondary research will be conducted against standing lip balm companies in use today. Research for both of these data collections will extend from surveys, interviews, and experimental trials to observations. Each data collection tool present challenges, but solutions can be made.

Each of these data collection tools are beneficial, but each has their own challenges we must face. The best approach to getting people’s opinion is to have online surveys and convenient exit interviews. The internet is most people’s comfort zone, but a main issue with this is people not taking the time to complete the surveys online. According to Quirk’s Marketing Research Review online issue, “Online research is cheaper… [But] people are understanding you get what you pay for” (Trade Talk: An Internet comfort zone 2012). They state that the best way to handle this situation is to keep the customer happy, and what will keep the customer happy? Deals and promotional items would. If businesses gave out rewards such as discounts or free items after filling out the surveys more people would.
