“Light and airy,” my mother says, “That’s how you want to dress.” She puts the navy blue sundress into the suitcase. The dress isn’t new. I’ve worn it a few times since summer vacation’s launch, but I can’t think of anything better to wear in St.Vincent’s hot, sultry climate. Usually, we go shopping before a trip, but money is tight this year so we pack mostly from our closet. I also put in a few pairs of denim shorts, light tank tops, and pairs of strappy sandals I got in various “BOGO” sales. The next day we wake up early to catch our 7 a.m. flight at JFK.
