All over the world, there are children who are being forced to work all day for less money than adults that have the same occupation. Americans need to stop allowing themselves to support businesses that us child labor to produce their products because of the damaging effects to the children's physical and mental wellbeing.
Millions of children are being forced to work in harsh conditions for businesses that don’t care for their employees. (Sekimoto) Most of the children start working for these companies at 8 years old or younger. (Gutierrez) The kids work all day for about 13 hours or more a day. (Sekimoto) Children also work as prostitutes, miners, fishers, etc.... When these kids are sent to these places they are introduced to all kinds of dangerous environments. They are exposed to harmful chemicals that cause temporary and permanent blindness, stunted growth, and sometimes even death. Not only do these kids get harmed physically by child labor, but they are also affected mentally by it. They are pulled away from their families and live in a very isolated environment. They also aren't able to go to school to get an education because they work all day. These children are ultimately being affected everyday by the harmful conditions that they work under. (Gutierrez) The ILO is a agency that is trying to eradicate child labor in the world. They have described child labor in three very specific ways. The first way that they described child labor is when a child is not the right age to be working according to the nations laws and regulations.
