In further detail, the samples that Neil Armstrong took were the first lunar surface materials that helped us understand the moon to a deeper extent as they were brought back to Earth. For example, there is an instrument called the Laser Ranging Retroreflector which allows scientists to collect data even after the Apollo 11 mission. Research shows that the Moon is farther from Earth. Another finding shows that the Moon has a fluid core, which some scientists before this mission thought that the moon's core was solid and cool.Neil Armstrong retired around the year 1971 and then became a college professor until 1979.
