After discussing as a group which of the Newberry Award books we were interested in, we chose Neil Gaiman’s, The Graveyard Book as our first choice and Lois Lowry’s The Giver as our second. Once again, we were granted our first choice as there was no overlap in the groups. While discussing in class what we were going to do was easy, talking outside of class was more difficult. My favorite part was coming up with different ways to present the book to students. I have noticed, for myself personally as a student, I enjoy writing papers and projects more when they are on a topic I find intriguing. With our ideas on different projects to incorporate the book, I found that I would not mind doing any of the projects we suggested; especially the tombstone and graveyard art projects. Researching a dance, as seen in the book, or creating a graveyard present both a learning experience as well as stretching the imagination. I enjoyed reading the novel and picturing how everything in the novel would look in real life. How the graveyard was laid out and how each ghost would look in period
