As of almost all the documents that were recorded, history has come to blame Nero for the disaster of the Great Fire Of Rome. Historians implied that Nero started the fire so that he could bypass the senate and build Rome back up to how he envisioned it to be after the civilization was burnt to the ground. Burning down Rome also made way for him to build the Golden House. Most of what we know about the Great Fire Of Rome has been documented by the historian Tacitus who claimed that Nero watched over the burning Rome while merrily playing his fiddle. From what is taken from Tacitus, the Great Fire Of Rome burnt down 10 out of 14 of Rome's districts. Just one year after the great fire of Rome, (64 AD) Nero began construction on the Domus Aurea (Golden House). The Golden House is estimated to have been more than 1.2 km2 (300 acres). Many historians suggest that Nero decided to take the opportunity to build a huge new palace after the fire and other historians say Nero purposefully lit Rome a blaze to make room for this giant palace. A clever move because the colosseum was able to have Sea Battles due to the swimming pool. Nero had taken the land after the fire in Rome. He Had built an artificial lake. Now that Vespasian returned to Rome, land that had been taken by Nero for his own pleasure was transformed into a space the people would enjoy for years to come.
