Psychosis and a nervous breakdown are actually similar in that both can happen quickly as a person builds to a breaking point, however their causes can be different. Typically nervous breakdown is more of a result from a person that has poor coping abilities, compounded with the stresses of life. A nervous breakdown can be different for various individuals but most show outward signs of anxiety, irrational or erratic behavior, fearfulness, unexplainable grief, and hypersensitivities to mood, or depressed feelings. A psychotic break on the other hand is more of a response to psychotic symptoms that a person was not expecting.
