Neurophysiology of biofeedback Biofeedback has an important role in promoting motor learning which is evident from the vast explanation of motor learning and therapeutic literature. Some form of feedback is necessary for the learning to take place. Feedback is classified into two subtypes; namely 5, 6 a) Intrinsic feedback (or inherent feedback). b) Extrinsic feedback (or augmented feedback). Intrinsic (inherent) feedback: This type of feedback comes to the individual through the various sensory movements as a result of normal production of the movement. Examples of intrinsic include visual information concerning whether a movement was accurate, as biofeedback are proprioceptive, visual, vestibular, and cutaneous signs. Visual biofeedback: The concept of visual biofeedback is as simple as looking in the mirror to observe yourself while moving your arm or leg. It’s a visual reinforcement that you are moving your limbs in a desired way. It can train a survivor to move more naturally. In a visual biofeedback a metal plate with a wire electrode is attached to the skin over a particular muscle. When the patient moves this muscle, an electrical signal is travelled from the electrode to an attached monitor, where it produces a particular image. The patient gets reinforced when this image is produced every time with
