After the gold rush of 1849, Americans were intrigued by the wonders in the west and went to explore it all. Named after a nearby mine created from the gold rush explorers, this hotel became a popular social gathering place for many of the people who visited after it’s opening debut in 1907 (The Mizpah Hotel, 2019). As the population came and left, the hotel eventually had to close its doors in 1999 and was then reopened in 2011 as a renovation project (Tesconi, 2020). Mizpah has been said to be haunted by a former employee of the hotel, now known as the Lady in Red. There are several theories around the death of her living body but sightings and feelings of her spirit still encounter guests to this day (Staff, 2022). Becoming one of the most well-known ghosts in Nevada, the Lady in Red is also a bit of a mystery.
