Nevada’s Mizpah Hotel History and Hauntings by the Lady in Red Alyssa Reeve University of Mount Union Cap 400: Digging Up Haunts Winter Term Dr. Boatright 01/08/2022 Nevada’s Mizpah Hotel History and Hauntings by the Lady in Red Located in Tonopah, Nevada; the Mizpah Hotel has become known to be one of the most haunted places in America. After the gold rush of 1849, Americans were intrigued by the wonders in the west and went to explore it all. Named after a nearby mine created from the gold rush explorers, this hotel became a popular social gathering place for many of the people who visited after it’s opening debut in 1907 (The Mizpah Hotel, 2019). As the population came and left, the hotel eventually had to close its doors in 1999 and was then reopened in 2011 as a renovation project (Tesconi, 2020). Mizpah has been said to be haunted by a former employee of the hotel, now known as the Lady in Red. There are several theories around the death of her living body but sightings and feelings of her spirit still encounter guests to this day (Staff, 2022). There are two spirits of former robbers known to haunt the basement of the hotel and one more famous spirit known as the Lady in Red (Clio, 2022). Becoming one of the most well-known ghosts in Nevada, the Lady in Red is also a bit of a mystery.
