On the island he meets the sole inhabitants of the island, General Zaroff, the protagonist, Zaroff soon tells Rainsford about his hunting of human beings and how he is going to hunt him. They go on their hunt and the hunt ends with Rainsford killing Zaroff. Connell achieves the major theme, hunt or be hunted, through the use of three literary elements: imagery, suspense, and foreshadowing.

The article focuses on Colin Kaepernick’s decision to sit when the national anthem was being played at the football games and how this act of protest has begun to spread throughout the entire country. This form of protest is no longer just in NFL games, but also in college football, volleyball games, high school football, and children’s leagues. Many responses were very critical calling the protesters disrespectful and unpatriotic towards the military for kneeling during the national anthem. Cowardice is defined as the lack of courage or firmness of purpose. Soldiers are some of the last people that people would think of as “cowards”. In The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, he tells several war stories about the men in war and how their cowardice got them to where they were in war and in life. Cowardice, to the soldiers, was seen as going to war, rather than avoiding and escaping war. Tim O’Brien, Norman Bowker, and Jimmy Cross exemplify the notion that men went to war and risked their lives out of the fear that they would be ridiculed if they did not, through their actions, attitudes, and beliefs.
