The New Deal created an expectation that when things start going bad, the Federal Government will help people. But before the New Deal, the Government was mainly focused on defending the nation’s military, and all the other issues were left in the hands of local and state governments. The Federal Government began safeguarding the well-being of average citizens through programs. However, the economy collapses because of The Great Depression. The New Deal basically changed the relationship between the federal government and its citizen, by creating relationships that people started depending on the more than ever.
Before the New Deal, most Americans citizens would have very with the Federal Government. With the New Deal, Americans came to be more likely to depend on the government for a job and etc.… The Federal Government took no responsibility for the people prosperity or even financial security. They were basically letting people know they have to take care of themselves. In Document one, it says “I am convinced that where the Federal action is essential….it should limit its responsibilities to supplement the states and local communities and that it should not assume the major role”. As He tries to get the country back to normal, many citizens are now beginning to show their regrets and doubts about whether or not President Roosevelt did actually anything rather than speaking.
