Excuse me, Teacher may I Borrow Your Gun? Newspeak: ambiguous euphemistic language used chiefly in political propaganda. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, newspeak is described as a controlled language, of restricted grammar and limited vocabulary. The purpose of Newspeak is to illustrate the idea that language can be corrupted into making people believe one thing versus another, by the way, its portrayed. In today's world newspeak is a problem.However when people read one article they think they know everything, but you really only know what the article wants you too. They both talk about arming teachers, however, they have completely different thoughts on the topic. In the first article that Ryan wrote, he doesn't take long to get his point across, at the end of the second paragraph is when he first tries to guilt the readers about how it is not the teacher's job to carry a gun but to teach their students. So before the article really even starts Ryan is already in the readers head. She then says things like if a teacher had a gun while teaching they wouldn't be able to focus. Again Ryan is making the reader believe that having a gun with a teacher is taking away from the kid's education. Throughout the whole article, Ryan excludes the positives about arming teachers and only focuses on what she believes. In the article written by Darling, he emotionally connects with the readers right away by bringing up 9/11. He then keeps the connection of the program created to arm pilots and how a program to arm teachers should be created. Darling gets his point across by giving a good example (FFDO program). Darling also mentions some of the negatives about the idea but follows up with another good reason for it to happen. Giving the reader an idea of what he's saying gives them something to think about while reading it, and that could make them agree or disagree. While
