I. Introduction
a) The final Chapter of Nickel and Dimed brought its readers to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ehrenreich traveled to Minnesota in search of achieving a comfortable medium between her income and her expenses. Due to the fact, that she was unable to achieve this medium in Maine and in Florida. Upon arriving to Minnesota, Ehrenreich applied to various corporate chains (including Wal-Mart, Target, and Kohl’s). Eventually, she receives a job at Wal-Mart working in softlines. The remainder of the chapter will take you through the difficulties of her job and the difficulty she faces to find a reasonable place to call home. Yet, she spent the last twenty plus years in Pittsfield, Massachusetts (where my siblings and I were born). In March of 2011, our family took off to Ohio with the Greyhound. Ohio and the city of Cincinnati is much larger than Massachusetts and the city of Pittsfield. Caroline was in search of a state with lower rent. We assumed that such large populations would grant bigger and better opportunities. Unfortunately, we were very wrong. It will be 6 years in March since our move to Ohio and 4 of those years have been full of pain and hardship. However, as stated by Caroline, “always find a church” (Ehrenreich 133). The church has helped us through what seems like a never ending time of difficulty. Another thing I relate to is Ehrenreich’s time as Wal-Mart employee. I am currently a Wal-Mart employee and I got a kick out of her commentary on orientation. Your “first day at Wal-Mart” will be one of the longest and one of the most boring days you will come across. I also appreciated the advice given to her by a fellow employee. Ehrenreich declares, “Although I had a lot to learn, it was also important not to know too much, or at least never reveal one’s full abilities to management, because the more they think you can do, the more they’ll
