“The Holocaust was the state-sponsored persecution and mass murder of millions of European Jews, Romani people, the intellectually disabled, political dissidents and homosexuals by the German Nazi regime between 1933 and 1945.” With all this horror going on, the innocent people who were trapped in these camps tried their best to keep their faith in God and find hope in times of despair. A Book that shows finding hope in times of despair is Night by Elie Wiesel. This book summarizes the Holocaust and the innocent people trying to find hope and keep their faith in God. The Memoir Night has numerous examples of finding hope in dark times. One example is seen when Elie starts going crazy, saying that her father is not dead yet. He’s (Elie’s dad) not dead! Not yet!” This proves that this was Elie’s last bit of hope, his only reason for living is his father. Another example of finding hope is when Elie was scared and nervous about what would happen to him. He saw kids being thrown into the fire, and how the Nazis were going to take everything away from him. Wiesel 33 states “"Today, everything is possible, even the crematoria...If that is true...I'll run into the electrified barbed wire." This proves that Elie doesn't have the strength to have hope that he will be okay. As all of the Jews were running from one camp to the next, a lot of them were giving up. On pg 31 the text states "We mustn't give up hope even as the sword hangs over our heads. Soon, we will all come to a halt. We cannot run like this to the end of the world." This proves that everybody is trying to stay hopeful and survive. Finally, when Elie was encouraging someone a little younger than her to come to her camp. Weasel 41 states “Don’t lose hope. Have faith in life, a thousand times
