In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, he expresses the traumatic and horrific experiences he went through at the concentration camp as the narrator in his book. Wiesel shares his experiences of mistreatment he received from SS officers at the camp and the outside world. Losing his mother and sister when they arrived at the camp. Elie Wiesel describes the horrors and cruelty of humans, showing that people at concentration camps: SS, and SA. They used prisoners, tourchured, and let them die like they were nothing. The “The World” – What is it? The world is not interested in us. Today, everything is possible, even the crematoria.” (33). This is essential information that illustrates how hopeless they felt in the camp when they saw such horrific things happening, yet people outside didn’t know or care. This demonstrates why people in Sighet didn’t believe Moishe in the beginning of the book and ignored his warning because it was kept secret and people on the outside had no idea what was happening at the concentration camp. Another important idea from the memoir is “I had no right to let myself die”. What would he do without me? I was his sole support.” (87). This exemplifies the strong connection between Elie and his father; Elie forced himself to live in the concentration camp to keep his father alive. Another evidence from the Night is “I knew that I was no longer with him but with Death itself, with Death that he had already chosen.”
