Night is a memoir written by Elie Wiesel and talks about his experiences in the Nazi Germany concentration camps. In Wiesel’s Night, we see the issue of abuse but, as demonstrated in Melinda Smith and Jeanne Segal’s article titled “Domestic Violence and Abuse”, this issue is as present in our time as it was in Wiesel’s memoir “Night”. In both night and today’s world, abuse is a significant problem. In Night, “I no longer felt anything except the lashes of the whip” Wisel Pg. 57. What is the difference between a '' and a ''? “Never shall I forget that night” Wiesel Pg. 34. What is the difference between a '' and a ''? Not only were Elie and the others physically abused, but they were also psychologically abused. Elie, his father, and the other fellow Jews were psychologically abused by none other than the Nazi soldiers again and some would say that the psychological abuse was worse than the physical abuse. Elie and the others experienced physiological abuse by witnessing people such as infants getting burned and seeing mass executions. You think it will end there, but it gets worse from here on out. Elie saw that Jews were turning against each other to survive. Lastly, the saddest part about Elie’s experience was that he witnessed the passing of his father as he watched him suffer and Elie couldn’t do a thing about it. Physical and physiological abuse was devastating during World War II. It is hard to know that this has happened in recent history.
