Noble Energy Stock Analysis Noble Energy is an energy firm whose main operations involve the exploration and production of crude oil. Based out of Houston, Texas Noble Energy has operations located in the DJ Basin, the majority of which is in Colorado; the Delaware Basin, located in West Texas and parts of New Mexico; the Eagle Ford Basin, a shale play in the south of Texas; offshore in the Gulf of Mexico; the Eastern Mediterranean, mainly in Israel; and West Africa, in Equatorial Guinea. This wide variety of geographical operations gives Noble Energy the flexibility to invest in a large number of projects. These projects range in time to completion, type of hydrocarbon being extracted, and extraction either onshore or offshore. E&P works in conjunction with midstream and downstream to produce hydrocarbon based fuel. Midstream refers to the transportation and refining of crude oil, Noble Midstream Partners is a subsidiary of Noble Energy that operates in this segment. Downstream refers to the sale of refined oil and gas products to consumers. Firms that operate in all three of these segments are referred to as integrated oil and gas companies, these firms are typically much larger than firms that only operate in a single segment. E&P can be characterized by its large amount of M&A, strong competition, and higher risk/reward relative to the other segments. The main driver of the industry is the price of crude oil; this is typically measured by price per barrel.
