General operating funds are an integral part in the sustainability, impact, and growth of all non-profit organizations. The Humane Society of the White Mountains is a non-profit organization; accepting the sole responsibility of self-support. General operating funds would provide our organization with the flexibility to meet pressing community needs and achieve greater impact in our community. More importantly, operating a non-profit organization and providing service to a low-income community can be difficult in many aspects. Persons living in poverty are considerably more likely to be in fair or poor health and to have disabling conditions. They may also have less access to health and animal care services. Other socioeconomic disadvantages of low-income communities include: high rates of unemployment, crime, adolescent delinquency, child maltreatment, poor child and adult health and mental health. With funding we can run our spay/neuter clinic at an even greater discount to the public. However, we have applied for funding, but have not received any funding for this program for 2016 as of 3/8/2016. In addition to the services we offer to all the animals brought into our shelter we offer services to our low-income community. We run a low cost spay/neuter clinic every Thursday of the week. Some of the services provided include spay/neuter, microchipping, and vaccinations. We offer these services to our low-income community at a discounted rate. Providing these discounted services greatly impacts the low-income and unemployed members of our community, who otherwise would not be able to afford these services. Consequently, all the services provided by our low cost clinic are performed by our veterinarian, which incurs further cost along with the supplies needed. Our veterinarian expense for 2015 was $35,465.14, making up another 6% of our total expense budget. Supplies and veterinary expenses make up 13% of our total yearly budget, which is only a small part of the costs incurred to run our shelter and provide the most needed services to our
