Non-Virtuous Life Is Wrong

Not all of our friends are the most virtuous people and not all of our enemies are the worst in our society; however, there is this incoherence in the idea of harming our enemies through justice. Socrates claims that “human beings who have been harmed necessarily become more unjust” (Bloom 12). If a society wants to deter people from stealing from each other and they implement heavy consequences for all levels of theft, those who have committed petty crimes will be harmed more than helped from this consequence. Thus, those individuals who committed some petty theft will lean more towards a more unjust lifestyle. Serving justice to our enemies in order to deter them from living a non-virtuous life would not be virtuous at all. As mentioned before,
