The foremost concern of the psychologist is the ability to accurately and efficiently provide successful treatments for the questions and problems which served to prompt the client to seek their services. In seeking to meet the needs of the client, frequently the challenge lies in choosing an appropriate assessment due to the diversity of areas being measured. Behaviors which are outwardly observable can be indicators of inner conflicts, or they can mask them, cognitive functioning, physiological, biological, and social influences, and how they impact an individual are just a few of the things a psychologist may measure when determining a solution or treatment. Due to the enormity of the need and use of research based assessments by psychologists, it is important that they show strong validity in order to ensure accurate decisions and use and aid in interpreting test results fairly, and in an unbiased manner. …show more content…
These studies have been starting points for most studies over the last fifty years focusing principally on statistical measures of construct, content, and criterion-related validity. However, Bornstein (2011) believes utilizing solely these methods is problematic and more efficient way to determine validity would be to utilize a combined method of evaluation which would allow for a more comprehensive view of the
