The two articles “Not so Strange Bedfellows: Sexuality and international development” and “ Time to call the bluff: (De)-constructing ‘Women Vulnerability’, HIV and Sexual Health” has several key points, however these are the ones that stood out the most:
Not so Strange Bedfellows: Sexuality and international development
⁃ In the first article development industries have mostly focused their attention on poverty, as they view it as a primary survival issue, while leaving sexuality as a secondary concern (p.77). However, with the increase need to respond to HIV/AIDS and the rise of human right approaches development, topics relating to sexuality became a crucial area of study (p.77). As activist have shown that sexuality is also a survival issue. They state this by giving examples of cases in which women or men are murdered due to sexual related issues. As it occurred in Nigeria that a woman was stoned to death for being accused of adultery, as well as men have been assassinated in Mexico or US for being gay or transgender (p.77). They then state that development should also focus on the injustice of sexuality related issues alongside with poverty.
⁃ Analyses and opinions from different activists were gathered to demonstrate that sexuality issues are as important as poverty (p.78). Their discussions are drawn on examples …show more content…
