When most people hear the word psychopath they think of a big red eyed, crazy, lunatic who belongs in a straight jacket in a mental facility. This exaggerated concept of psychopaths is greatly influenced by the media's representation of the psychological disorder through movies and TV. The average psychopath is much harder to spot than most people think. In “Ready Player One,” by Ernest Cline, Nolan Sorrento is displayed as a power hungry tyrant, who will do anything to win the Oasis game, but is he a psychopath? Nolan Sorrento is ruthless, cold, and a manipulative individual who shows no regard for anyone but himself, but is he a psychopath? But there is still more evidence supporting that he is a psychopath. His manipulative and narcissistic behavior is not the only thing that makes him psychopathic. Psychopaths know how to hide their disorder behind a vale of charm. Besides Nolan's malevolent nature, he can be charming and charismatic when it serves his interests. He uses his charisma to manipulate others and gain their trust, presenting them with a facade of respectability that hides his true intentions. He manipulates his employees to do his ill deeds, like killing Daito. Wade states “They appeared to receive an order via their radio earpieces, then used a key card to open the door of a tiny one-room apartment. Daito’s apartment in the middle of the street. I watched in horror as they rushed in, yanked him out of his haptic chair, and threw him off the balcony. The bastards even filmed him plummeting to his death. Probably at Sorrento’s request.” (Cline 270) This shows that Sorrento is making his employees do his ill-minded deeds. This is important because it gives further evidence supporting the idea that Nolan might be a
