The whistle screeches and everyone are off; trying to gain the prized possession, the football. It's a battle of skill, tricks, teamwork and daringness. It’s only 5 minutes in and the other team has the ball. They are passing it around us weaving in and out, heading right for our goal getting ready to strike. It’s like they have telepathic abilities as their football isn’t anything less than perfection. We only have a matter of seconds to regroup before we are down 0-1. It’s a goal, sadly for us, we were defeated, so with our heads down, we get ready for the next battle.
My weekend football match is taken seriously as if it was professional football. With 11 mighty players, empowering each other to continue to play the sport they love. Joined together with our supporters, mainly family and friends, we perform to a standard like no other. They support us on our best and worst days, making us feel on top of the word. In 2017, my football team came third in Division 1, we have placed in the top 3 ever since the team was started in 2013. This is an outstanding feat as it shows my team is able to compete with the best by playing football at an incredibly high standard.
Pumped up after halftime we wait for the whistle to blow. With a kick of the ball, we run off like cheetahs chasing prey. Running circles around the other team getting goal after goal. The score is now 3-1, the crowd roars energizing us to play football unlike any other. People stare in disbelief. With an extraordinary kick, the ball is flung pass the keeper into the top corner of the goal. Our goalie saving the impossible as the other team fights for redemption.
