This paper will discuss the organization, mission, vision, values, and goals of the organization I am currently employed at. The nursing mission of the organization will be discussed, in addition to the unit nursing mission and its consistency with the goals of the organization as a whole. How my work relates and contributes to the unit’s mission as well as strategies to strengthen the mission and vision will be included. Lastly, the nursing department structure will be discussed along with pros and cons of using that organizational model.

Centralization and decentralization are organizational philosophies about power distribution that pertain to a hierarchial level of decision making within the organization (Huber, 2014). Centralization is where decisions are made at the top level, and I believe OhioHealth is centralized. Decentralization is a structure in which decision making is spread out within the organization. On page 283 in the course text (Huber, 2014) there is a scenario in which a nurse manager conducts interviews for nurses and at the end hires the nurse she felt is the best for the unit. Decentralization encourages and facilitates greater innovation, more input, and faster response times (Huber, 2014). One study determined the impact of organization structure, in particularly participation in decision making, communication, integration, and promotional opportunity on burnout among pediatric nurses. The findings in the study revealed that participation in decision making, communication, and promotional opportunity prevented burnout (Bilal & Ahmed, 2017). This means that the decentralization model can help prevent burnout as staff is given more say in the decision making. However, it is important to examine how decentralized an organization
